Forty Days of Prayer: Day 16

Finalists in the Genesis Contest

Psalm 135:5-6–For I know that the Lord is great and that our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.

Lord, thank you for pouring out your creative talents on all of us here. We are all made in your awesome, creative image. Help us to remember you are in control. You love us and you care what happens to all of us. Bless all who entered the Genesis Contest, especially the finalists. Let all remember that all we have comes from you. Let all remember that you have a plan for each one of us. Those who win do so because of talents you gave them. Those who don’t win still have talents you gave them. And you hold all of us in the palm of your hand. Let those who win rejoice in you, and those who don’t, rest in you, trusting their writing and their lives to your perfect, loving will, and giving you all the glory. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Clarity of speech for those who are pitching projects to editors and agents

Philippians 4: 13–I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Dear Lord,

We are anxious as we face a moment we have long waited for … presenting our dream to an agent or editor. We pray that you will give us the ability to communicate our story, our passion, and our belief in our writing in a way that will honor and glorify You. May we remember that we write for You, and may the memory ease our anxious thoughts, calm our stuttering tongue, and give us rest in knowing that whatever the outcome – You are in control.

We submit our communication to You. Be the Master of this moment!

Forty Days of Prayer: Day 18

For conferees to grasp what is taught and grow from it

Proverbs 1:5a–A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel.

Lord, we pray for all our conferees, for everyone to gain a piece of special wisdom from the classes and workshops that will make a difference in their writing when they return home. You know what each individual needs. Please help everyone focus and not be overwhelmed by the wealth of knowledge and experience so they can learn what You need for them during that time. Because there is more to being at a conference than the classes, also show us how we can also learn by being with those who are more experienced who are in attendance. We pray that everyone can seek out that individual help or encouragement they need in this time, that everyone goes home just a little wiser than when they arrived. In the name of our mighty Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray, amen.

For those attending as they get into final preparations

James 1:5–But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Lord, we ask you to calm our minds and spirits as we prepare for the ACFW Conference. Please grant us wisdom as we make choices regarding travel, sessions to attend, and ideas to discuss. We ask your guidance as we take this step to improve our writing and use your gift to us to reach out to others in your kingdom. All this we ask in the name of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Forty Days of Prayer: Day 20

Conference veterans

Psalm 18:2–The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge . . .

Lord, it is so easy to stumble on a path we have walked many times. We become confident in our personal knowledge and forget from where that knowledge first came. As conference veterans, we may fall into the trap of self-sufficiency. I pray, Lord, that you will prick our hearts to lean even tighter against your bosom, to rest only in your foreknowledge, not our own.
For those who have journeyed the path time and time again yet feel there has been no fruit, I pray that you will tend to the garden of their hearts, pull out whatever weeds block the sunlight of opportunity that prevents the bloom from flowering.
In Jesus’ name,amen
