You Can’t Out Run God–Guest post by Richard Mabry

Angie: Please welcome our guest blogger, ACFW author, Dr. Richard Mabry.

When Dr. Cathy Sewell’s world fell apart, leaving her alone and confused, she did the only thing she could think of. She ran back home. For her that meant leaving a promising medical position in a prestigious medical center and starting over in her hometown. But she soon discovered that she couldn’t measure up to the reputation her father had built as a beloved surgeon there. Her heart was too fragile to make the decisions she faced. And she encountered opposition on every side, including someone who not only wanted her out of town—they wanted her dead.

That’s the basis idea behind Code Blue, my debut novel of medical suspense. In writing Code Blue, I wanted to emphasize one central theme, a theme illustrated by Psalm 139. Cathy learns that she can’t outrun God. She finds that, even though we may turn away from God, when we go back we find that he’s never left. And that’s a lesson many of us have learned the hard way.

I’m fairly certain that every one reading this message has experienced times when we’ve said, “God, why did you let this happen?” and “God, where were you when I needed you?” And yet, down the road, we see that God was always there. Since we live in a fallen world, bad things will happen. The Bible assures followers of Christ that we will experience trials and tribulations. Not “might.” Not “maybe.” We “will.” But we’re also assured that God will be there to walk with us through them. And that’s an important lesson to learn.

I believe that every Christian novel should have a take-away message. After all, as Christians and authors, our writing is our pulpit. What’s the take-away message of Code Blue? I think it can be demonstrated by yet another Psalm, the twenty-third. “The Lord is my Shepherd…I will fear no evil.”

Mini Bio:
After his retirement from a distinguished career as a physician and medical educator, Richard turned his talents to non-medical writing. Code Blue is his debut novel, the first of the Prescription For Trouble series, featuring medical suspense. Richard and his wife, Kay, make their home in North Texas, where he continues his struggles to master golf and be the world’s most perfect grandfather.
