Make God a Part of Your Dreams
God calls us many times to delight in him. Paraphrased, from Psalms 1: Blessed is the one whose delight is in the law of the Lord.
And the one I want to talk about today, that I always hold close when I think of getting a book published, from Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD; and he will give you the desires of your heart.
There’s a line in Petticoat Ranch that says, “Pastor Roscoe had come west as an answer to a prayer that Sophie wouldn’t even begin praying for five years.”
I like to think of God being ahead of me. Preparing me in ways haven’t even imagine.
He did this for me.
I’m a firm believer that dreams can come true, but I also believe we have to work for those dreams. We don’t sit back and wait for God to provide.
A line in Winter Wedding Bells, my novella contribution to A Bride for All Seasons is:
Megan prayed for complete healing as if every bit of David’s health rested in the hands of the Almighty, at the same time she worked as if it was all up to her. She thought God supported her in that approach to life.
Megan wants David to get well and she makes God a partner in her dreams.
Praying for ourselves for a thing like getting a book published may seem wrong, even sinful.
Asking God for what I wanted seemed worldly, and it took me a while to start thinking it was right to make prayer a part of my dream.
I prayed hard for God to grant me this desire of my heart.
In Luke chapter 18, Jesus tells the parable of the woman who went before the corrupt judge over and over asking for justice.
In other words, she nagged.
The judge gave her justice just to get her off his back. The end of that story goes, “If the corrupt judge will give someone justice, how much more will your father in Heaven give you justice?”
So, I prayed, you might even say I nagged the Lord. It felt wrong, selfish and I don’t suppose getting a book published is the same a justice.
After each prayer of, “Lord, help me get a book published.” I added, “And let me write something worthy.” Worthy of God. Words that a person might read and be touched by. Words that changed their hearts, lightened their lives, Strengthen their faith.
Words that are more than I’m capable of saying alone.
I’m telling you about my prayers because God gave me the deep desire of my heart. God blessed my words and my work. My dream came true, and I urge all of you to put your hopes and dreams in the able hands of your savior. I want all of you to let God into your dreams.
Pursue the dreams and desires of your heart in partnership with God.
Say your prayer to God with joy. With delight. Delight yourself in the LORD; and he will give you the desires of your heart.
