A Brainstorming Session

So, I’m sitting at my computer pondering what to write for the first of my four ACFW blogs for the year. Time for a brainstorming session!

I could try to find a sneaky way to promote my newly-released mystery novella, DEADLY INTENT. But would that really help anyone but me? Probably not so…REJECTED.

I could pontificate about my writing journey and what I’ve learned from it. But would anyone really care but me? Probably not so…REJECTED.

I could get on my soapbox and preach about some topic that is near and dear to my heart. But would anyone want to read it? Probably not so…REJECTED.

Maybe I should write a post that would be helpful to readers or at least entertaining? What a novel idea-pun intended! Think about what the reader wants to read instead of what I want to write.

Mmm. That seems like a good idea…ACCEPTED!

So what would readers of the ACFW blog want to read about? Probably something to do with writing. But what?

I guess I should think about who I’m writing for? I suppose it could be for everyone in ACFW? On the other hand the spectrum of writers in ACFW goes from new writers to bestselling novelists and everyone in between.

That might be just a little too broad.

Let’s narrow it down a bit. How about advice I wished someone would have given me before I was published so it wouldn’t have taken me so long to get published? Sounds good. So my target audience is pre-published writers-a nicer way of saying unpublished… so far.

Of course, just like all writers, I hope others will enjoy the post as well!

Now I’ve got my plan. I’ll use my four blogs this year to pass along some good advice that might make the journey to publication a little less painful and hopefully a lot quicker.

But I’m running out of space for my oh-so-wonderful advice so I better get to it!

WAIT…I just read what I wrote and I realize there’s at least three pieces of advice that all writers (new and not so new) should follow. Did anyone figure them out?

I could tell you, but then I’d be violating the RUE rule-Resist the Urge to Explain. And I would never do that!

Next time…3 Steps To Publication…Guaranteed! (Cliffhangers really do work!)
