Christmas Magic and Miracle

Mary Manners wrote a wonderful blog a few days ago about memories she had of Christmas. That’s one of the things I really love about this season of the year. So many wonderful memories are created and they live with us through the years. However, we also look at the other side of the coin and know some Christmas memories are bleak and contain so much sadness and pain.

No matter what our memories of Christmas are, we can all rejoice at the birth of our Savior who came to give us new life. We now have an eternal song to sing to His glory even in the darkest of times. He is the one to bring Light into our world and guide through the deepest valleys of despair.

I love writing about Christmas because it’s such a magical time of year and fantasy and reality mix to bring us delightful tales. Angels become humans to guide us to the true meaning of Christmas. Santa Claus grants wishes and fulfills dreams in wonderful ways. Strangers become secret benefactors who change hearts. Ghosts have a mission in the classic A Christmas Carol, and the true meaning of the season is once again remembered.

Think back on your favorite Christmas stories and find how most of them are magical, whimsical, and full of truths to cheer our hearts. Along with the classic stories like It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street, we have writers today who take us away to a world of enchantment.

One of my favorites is Donita K. Paul’s Two Tickets to the Christmas Ball. It’s fun, magic, whimsy, and love all rolled up into one delightful novella. In fact, so many of our members write wonderful Christmas stories to warm the heart that I couldn’t begin to mention them all.

Above it all is the greatest story of mankind. It’s a story of miracles, angels, shepherds, and kings, but most important, it’s the story of a Savior who came as a baby and lived among us a man to share our sorrows, bear our burdens, heal our brokenness, and bring peace to all men and women who accept Him as Savior.

So, as you unwrap all the gifts under the tree on Friday, may Jesus’ love and joy fill your heart and create beautiful memories with your loved ones. May Jesus be the inspiration for bigger and better things in your writing for the New Year.
