Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. — John 12:26

When you were little, did you ever play, Follow the Leader?

The object of the game is to mimic the movements and the steps of the one who is in the front of the line. Sometimes you might have to do some crazy things, but in order to stay in the game – you must follow.

Who is a leader in your life?

Is your leader a helper, a guide or a teacher?

Or is your leader a dictator, an authoritarian, or a tyrant?

Leadership is displayed, not by the number of demands made but rather through the influence to guide the consensus to change. Leaders lead by example and through inspiration – not through brute force.

So…Are you following a true leader or simple a bully in a leadership jacket?

Each of us has the perfect example of a leader to emulate and to follow:

God – Our Father.

God wants to be our helper – not a dictator.

He wants to be the guiding force in our lives – not an authoritarian.

He is our true teacher – not tyrant.

He is our leader and He will use a variety of measures to reach us.

With Adam, He created Eve – Man’s Helpmate.
With King David He sent Nathan – a King’s conscience.
With Mary – He sent an Angel to deliver the Good News of the coming Messiah.
With Isaiah – He brought the prophet to His throne room to deliver His message.

As our Leader, The Lord will use whatever technique He has in His arsenal to reach our hearts and our minds. He will not bully us into following Him. Rather, He is wooing us – each and every day – into a relationship with Him; with The Lord as the Leader and each of us as His faithful followers of His lead.

He never intended for us to be lone rangers. Like with our Biblical forefathers and mothers, He has provided us with additional leaders to reach out to for support, guidance and accountability. In turn, He wants each of us to offer the same kind of leadership in support, guidance and accountability to His other children. He has given us a pattern to follow – true leadership that inspires.

He loves you.

Because of His unending love He wants to be your leader – your one true leader.

As you begin this New Year, you have the opportunity to make a multitude of changes in your life. Some changes may require you to give up something or turn away from an old lifestyle. The lists of resolutions are long but yet consistent from year to year and person to person.

Wouldn’t it be an amazing 2015 if every person decided to make the ultimate New Year’s resolution to let go of an earthly, flawed leader in order to follow The Leader?

Choosing to Follow the Leader is the only resolution that will truly make a life-altering difference in your 2015.

Psalm 81:13-16

Quote

“God created the law of free will, and God created the law of cause and effect. And he himself will not violate the law. We need to be thinking less in terms of what God did and more in terms of whether or not we are following those laws.” — Marianne Williamson
