Missy Tippens, here. I recently registered for the ACFW conference coming up in September. I’m really excited about all the opportunities! Especially the list of workshops.
The continuing ed sessions are multi-session workshops. Among the choice of these in-depth classes are:
Basic Basics for Fiction Writers—Jim and Tracie Peterson
Mastering Structure, Symbols, 3-D Characters Identified with Literary Fiction Writing—Dr. Dennis Hensley
12 Crucial Questions to Ask about your Novel—Gayle Roper
Scene Therapy—Rachel Hauck and Susan May Warren
Marketing your Fiction—Chip MacGregor and Jim Rubart
Six-stage Plot Structure (for multi-published authors)—Michael Hauge
In addition to these great classes, there are also elective workshops and late-night workshops. To check out the full list of electives, click here. And to check out the late night workshops (which are spotlights on publishers and agents), click here.
One of the electives I’ve signed up for and am looking forward to is one offered by Barbara Scott (Senior Acquisitions editor for Fiction at Abingdon Press). For her class, The Art of Self-Editing, she recommends the book by Susan Bell titled The Artful Edit: On the Practice of Editing Yourself, ISBN: 978-0393332179, published by W.W. Norton.
To prepare for the class, I ordered the book and have already dived into it since I’m in the middle of revisions for my upcoming Steeple Hill book. Talk about perfect timing! I highly recommend the book.
I’d love to hear what classes you’re considering taking or have already signed up for at conference. Remember to check out my links above if you’re interested in finding out more! Or check all about the conference at www.acfw.com
