ACFW Conference 2010

“The Premier Christian Fiction Conference”
Indianapolis, Indiana?September 17 – 20, 2010

ACFW–American Christian Fiction Writers–has grown by leaps and bounds since I first joined 10 years ago. The group was originally American Christian Romance Writers, but with the interest in Christian fiction also expanding exponentially, in October 2004 the name was changed. ACFW now serves writers of every genre from romance to women’s fiction to mystery/suspense to science fiction and more!

As the organization has grown, so has ACFW’s annual conference. The first ACRW conference I attended was actually a one-day regional conference hosted by several ACRW members in the Houston area. Lena Nelson Dooley spoke to us on “Getting the Words Right.” DiAnn Mills gave her signature “Boot Camp for Writers.” Paul Crozier shared his expertise on “Searching the Net.” An “Ask the Author” panel featured Lena, DiAnn, Lynn, and Pamela Griffin. And just like every ACRW/ACFW conference since, we enjoyed a time of worship and praise.

I was unable to attend the first national conference, held in Kansas City, but I have made it a point never to miss another one! Long before September rolls around each year, I’m already planning my schedule around the conference dates and making plans to attend.

One huge reason, of course, is the wealth of information, instruction, and networking. But equally important is catching up with my very best writer friends, many of whom I have only this one chance a year to see. At the end of each conference day, you’ll usually find us tugging chairs into a huge circle in the lobby or lounge and gabbing about anything and everything. Nobody wants to be the first to call it a night and risk missing out on some juicy conversation!

There’s a lot to look forward to in Indianapolis this year!

*James Scott Bell’s Early Bird Session
*Susan May Warren & Rachel Hauck returning with a Scene Therapy workshop
*Chip MacGregor & Jim Rubart sharing their marketing expertise
*Michael Hauge teaching his Six-Stage Plot Structure
*plus a host of elective workshops covering just about any aspect of writing you’d want to study or brush up on.

You can also
*sign up for a paid critique by an experienced author
*request an appointment to meet one-on-one with an agent or editor
*shop the conference bookstore
*have your books autographed by your favorite authors
*have a new publicity photo made by the conference photographer
*volunteer in a variety of capacities
*dress to the nines for the much anticipated Genesis and Book of the Year Awards Banquet!

For writers of Christian fiction, ACFW is the place to be. Hope to see you in Indianapolis!
