Specialty Appointments

The opportunity to have personal, fifteen minute appointments with Editors, Agents, Mentors or PR/Media Professionals is a valuable highlight of the conference. These provide a great way to learn first-hand about the writing industry, to pitch your manuscript or work-in-progress, and to brainstorm ideas, get encouragement, and benefit from industry professionals.

All appointments are available on a first pay, first slotted basis. Appointments will be scheduled by the Conference Appointment Coordinator, Casey Miller. You will select multiple choices for your appointment needs when you register for the conference.

In selecting Speciality Appointments with PR/Media Professionals, we request only contracted/published authors request these appointments.

Jennifer Deshler

Through a series of successive roles, Jennifer learned about business from every angle over her 15 year career in publishing. And while much of her focus was on marketing, where she served as the VP of Marketing for Harper Collins Christian Publishers, her desire as a maximizer was to bring new ideas to life, which gave her the skills to expand beyond promotion alone.

Jennifer was the creator of thriving online communities like Amish Living and Devotionals Daily, developed strategies for growth that are still being used on New York Times bestsellers like Jesus Calling, and built out-of-the-box campaigns for bestselling Fiction authors including Colleen Coble, Rachel Hauck, Stephen Lawhead, and Ted Dekker.

As the CEO of Skywrangler Strategic, Jennifer now has greater opportunity to support new voices in writing by helping to develop content and pursue publishing and speaking opportunities for their clients. Through Skywrangler, Jennifer and her team are committed to intentional focus on each project to realize the financial and relational goals of their clients.

Prior to joining PR by the Book, where he directs the efforts of the Nashville office, Jason spent five years with the country’s largest Christian publishing house, Thomas Nelson Publishers. There, he led campaigns for nine New York Times bestselling titles and managed some of the industry’s most successful authors, including: Bill Bennett, Eric Metaxas, Mark Driscoll, John MacArthur, Don Miller, Bob Goff and Rachel Held Evans, among others. Specializing in history, politics, biographies, culture and Christian living titles, Jason regularly lands his authors on the national stage and maintains strong personal relationships with some of the country’s top producers, editors and writers.

With nearly 15 years experience in public relations, Jason’s pre-publishing career included: three years directing the public relations efforts of one of Memphis’ most widely-respected agencies, Sossaman + Associates (now CS2) and six years in professional baseball, where he managed the media/public relations department of the Memphis Redbirds – the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

A proud native of Memphis, lover of blues, baseball and barbecue and a 1996 graduate of the University of Tennessee-Martin, Jason resides in Tennessee with his wife, Tracey and two boys, Jack and Charlie.

Katie Schroder

Katie Schroder loves great stories and loves to support great storytellers. After receiving a degree in Creative Writing from Agnes Scott College and completing the Publishing Institute at the University of Denver, she began a marketing and publicity career at Peachtree Publishers in Atlanta, braved the chilly mountain air while at WaterBrook Multnomah, and returned to her beloved South to spend eight years at Thomas Nelson and HarperCollins Christian Publishers, most recently as Director of Marketing for the Fiction group.

During her twelve years in-house with these prestigious publishers, Katie honed her skills as a brand strategist: she loves to help authors label their true identities, discover new potential in the marketplace, and get excited about opportunities to serve their readers well. Katie is known for creative promotional ideas, event planning, and encouraging advice on time management. She has helped fiction and nonfiction authors realize joy in their work and reach milestones on the New York Times, USA Today, ECPA, CBA, and Christian Retailing bestseller lists.

Katie has a heart for hospitality and now spends her days as Director of Development for a local Nashville nonprofit organization, managing fundraising, events, marketing, and communications. She maintains that there's no more powerful skill than storytelling, and connects daily with donors who take action when they hear how their contributions have changed lives and affected generations. Katie has also maintained a marketing and publicity consulting business, continuing to support authors and publishers with special projects. Finally, she's completing her training as a yoga instructor and is known to dole out advice about breathing and stretching that helps cure writer's block, banish author anxiety, and create awareness of God's presence.

Katie's nonfiction writing has been published by magazines like Skirt and Real Simple. In 2015, she was featured in a book called, The Best Advice in Six Words: Writers Famous and Obscure, with one of her life mantras, inspired by her grandmother: "The good china is for everyday."

Jandra Sutton

Formerly the marketing director for Turner Publishing, Jandra Sutton joined PR by the Book with over five years of experience in developing social media strategies for various small businesses, non-profits, international brands, publishers, and authors.

A writer and a digital native, Jandra has been transfixed by the potential power of social media since its outset.

After graduating from Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana with a B.A. in History, she went on to receive an M.A. in Modern British History from the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom.

Jandra has worked with a variety of authors and publishers to promote brand growth, audience engagement, and the development of successful content strategies with great success.

Specializing in content development, branding, and targeted growth campaigns, Jandra has experience in building and developing social media profiles for businesses as well.

Jeane Wynn

WYNN-WYNN MEDIA was formed in 2001 by Jeane Wynn and her husband Tyson. Jeane began in publishing in 1989, working in sales at NavPress. She was soon promoted to a team that developed and launched Clarity magazine, while also doing marketing work for Discipleship Journal and Current Thoughts & Trends.

Since then, Jeane has worked in various positions in publishing, which have given her a well-rounded view of the industry, which is essential as she navigates the ever-changing world of publicity. Before starting Wynn-Wynn Media, she hired and worked with a number of publicists in her capacity as a marketing manager.

Wynn-Wynn Media thrives due to a combination of Jeane’s love of good books, her personal care and attention to the authors who create them, and her understanding of all aspects of publishing, from acquisition to editorial to sales to marketing.
