Family Reunion

“How are the family reunion plans coming, sis?”

“Oh, didn’t you hear? We’re doing a virtual reunion this year.”

“What?”

“Life is busy, you know. Lots of other activities to work around. Plus the expense. Imagine what we’ll each save on the prices of hotel rooms, food, travel…”

“It’s the family reunion! It’s part of the cost of getting together with people we care about.”

“Don’t worry. It’ll be fine. We’ll all comment on Grandma’s Facebook Live, if she can figure that out. We’ll send emojis. Little hearts. Kind of a live chat thing.”

“That’s not a family reunion.”

“You’re going to miss Uncle Fred’s potato salad, I suppose.”

“That’s not the point. Reunion. Together. As in, TOGETHER.”

“Uh huh.”

“What’s this?”

“That note I found on your desk. You were weighing the pros and cons of registering for that writers’ conference.”

ACFW. Right.”

“Authors together. As in, TOGETHER.”

“Point taken. I’ll fill out my registration this afternoon.”

“And I’ll just wait here until you do.”

Isn’t it interesting how a fictional story can carry important truth or inspiration to a reader’s heart? Click here for more information on registering for the 2019 ACFW conference.

  1. I wish that I could match your names
    to voices, faces, gesture;
nothing, then, would be the same,
and you could take my measure.
    You’ld be forever keepsaked,
your smiles writ on my heart
and in soul a bound’ry staked
to include you in my part.
I wish that I could shake your hands
    (I’m not a hugging man),
to draw us close with grace-tied bands
    according to God’s plan.
    Alas, alack, this cannot be,
but find my words, and you’ve found me.
